The hotel industry in Mexico is undergoing a quiet yet powerful transformation: new generations of entrepreneurs are investing in luxury spaces that offer not just comfort, but a deeply sensorial experience rooted in the country’s identity and beauty. This vision comes to life with Hideaways Trademark Collection by Wyndham, an ambitious project set to open in Los Cabos in 2026, poised to become a hospitality icon in the region.

With this vision comes Hideaways Trademark Collection by Wyndham, an ambitious project set to open in Los Cabos in 2026, aiming to become an icon of hospitality in the region.

Behind this venture are Jorge Martínez de Velasco, Roy de Anda, and Andrés Vinay—three young entrepreneurs who have found in hospitality not only a solid economic opportunity, but also a means of personal and cultural expression.

Steering clear of traditional mass tourism stereotypes, they have chosen to create spaces that celebrate design, gastronomy, and personalized experiences—perfectly aligned with the expectations of today’s most discerning travelers.

“We like to focus on the details, because hospitality is a long-term business. It’s definitely a legacy-driven vision—at the end of the day, you won’t see returns right away, but over time, it becomes a very profitable and rewarding venture. Seeing people enjoy the experience and the service builds your reputation, which in turn drives steady growth,” says the hotelier.

A New Era of Luxury

Los Cabos has long been a magnet for high-end tourism. However, the arrival of Hideaways signals a paradigm shift: luxury is no longer defined solely by suite size or star ratings, but by authenticity, sustainability, and a deep connection to the surroundings.

The new hotel will blend contemporary architecture with local materials and will feature 125 residences ranging from one to four bedrooms, a signature restaurant, holistic spa, beach club, and immersive experiences—from cultural tours to Mexican cooking workshops—all set in a prime location in San José del Cabo.

In Jorge’s words, “what we want is not just to offer a comfortable bed, but to create a memory. We want our guests to take away more than just photos—something they can feel, a story, a reconnection with what it means to be truly present.”

This approach aligns with global trends in “signature hospitality,” where each property tells a unique story and is thoughtfully curated. The rise of this type of offering has transformed destinations like Ibiza, Bali, and Marrakech—and now Mexico joins the wave with projects like Hideaways.

From Tulum to Los Cabos

Before arriving in Los Cabos, Jorge and Andrés had already built a solid reputation in Tulum, where they own two boutique hotels that have captured the attention of international travelers. The first is Wyndham Grand Tulum, which opened in December 2023—just as the pandemic was ending—and features 287 rooms. Their second property in the Riviera Maya, under the Trademark Collection by Wyndham, is set to open later this year with 100 rooms.

In both spaces, the vision has centered on blending design and nature with a culinary offering led by up-and-coming chefs.

“We realized Tulum needed something different—not just more of the same kind of lodging, but places that truly offered something new. We took a risk, and the public responded. Today, those hotels are our calling card, allowing us to dream bigger and aim higher,” said Martínez de Velasco.

“The expansion to Los Cabos is no coincidence. The area has established itself as one of the top destinations for high-end tourism in North America, thanks to its infrastructure, natural beauty, and proximity to cities like Los Angeles and Houston. However, there’s still room for new concepts that break the mold and elevate the lodging experience to a whole new level,” he added.

A strategic partner

Although the soul of the project is entirely Mexican, Jorge and Andrés have surrounded themselves with key partners to bring their vision to life. One of them is Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, one of the largest hotel chains in the world, providing strategic, operational, and brand support to the initiative.

This alliance, solidified during the 2025 Wyndham Global Conference held in Las Vegas, allows them to retain creative control over the project while ensuring international standards in quality, distribution, and marketing.

In recent years, Wyndham has focused on adding uniquely branded projects to its portfolio—especially in high-potential markets like Mexico. Hideaways Trademark Collection will be part of its luxury and lifestyle collection, marking an important validation for the project and offering a platform that can propel it onto the global stage.

The Future of Mexican Hospitality

The construction of this resort is part of a broader trend: the growing sophistication of Mexico’s hospitality industry. In recent years, the country has seen a rise in developments aimed at the premium tourism market, with both national and international investments transforming the landscape of destinations such as Tulum, Bacalar, San Miguel de Allende, Valle de Guadalupe, and, of course, Los Cabos.

This new wave not only enriches the country’s tourism offerings, but also brings tangible benefits: job creation, support for local suppliers, promotion of sustainable practices, and most importantly, the repositioning of Mexico as a global luxury destination. Gone are the days when high-end tourism was limited to isolated enclaves like Cancún or Punta Mita. Today, it’s expanding with its own identity—and an increasingly Mexican touch.

For local communities, these developments represent an opportunity for economic growth—when carried out responsibly. In the case of Hideaways Trademark Collection by Wyndham, the entrepreneurs have announced they will prioritize hiring local talent, as well as collaborating with regional artisans, producers, and chefs.
